Tax Manager

  • Sehjal qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser whilst working for a medium-sized accountancy firm working in the Private Client Tax team as a Senior Consultant and joined Lancaster Knox in 2016.
  • She has over 16 years’ experience of advising private clients on a broad range of personal tax issues for both UK and non-UK domiciled individuals. Her client portfolio consists of entrepreneurs, partners, company directors and high net worth individuals.
  • Sehjal specialises in domicile and residence issues including the UK statutory residence test and the new rules for non-UK domiciled individuals such as mixed fund analysis. She also has expertise in divorce, estate planning and personal tax investigations.  Sehjal realises how important it is to understand her clients and spends time with them to fully understand their needs and produce advice that is relevant to their individual circumstances.

Sehjal’s experience includes

  • Working with existing advisers including accountants and overseas Trustees to restructure various offshore Trusts in light of the new rules for non-UK domiciled individuals prior to clients becoming deemed domiciled for UK tax purposes. Aim was to safeguard the assets and ensure the beneficiaries needs are met following any restructuring.
  • Carrying out reviews of property portfolios and determining if a business exists and the viability of setting up a partnership or corporate structure to assist with succession planning.
  • UK residency review for a High Net Worth. Ensuring their non-UK tax affairs are set up correctly and remittances to the UK are made tax efficiently.
  • Assisting clients during the separation and divorce process. In particular, reviewing assets as part of the financial settlement and calculating potential tax due when assets are transferred.  Assisting with completion of the Form E and carrying out forensic work required during the process.  Putting clients in contact with the advisers who will understand their culture and position ensuring their position is safeguarded and they have the correct advisers representing them.
  • Bringing clients’ UK tax affairs up to date and ensuring they are compliant in all matters.
  • Reviewing the clean capital of a client prior to them becoming UK resident and determining what funds can be extracted and the tax consequences of doing so.
  • Succession planning for UHNW in respect of their UK property portfolio. Arranging beauty parades with advisers and carrying out a family office function in respect of their UK tax matters.
